Along with the traditional 5K run and Walk, the inaugural Get Your Rear in Gear – Alexandria events will host Tony’s Mile for a Miracle, men’s, women’s and open mile sprint events. The sprints are honoring Tony Snow, former White House Press Secretary, who lost his battle with colon cancer in July of 2008. Jay McConville, a close friend and neighbor of Tony’s for many years, was inspired to bring a Get Your Rear in Gear event to Alexandria after hearing that Tony’s Sister Jenny, who lives near Philadelphia, was actively involved and planning an event in her area– one that drew over 1,600 people in its first year.

"Not everybody will survive cancer," Snow once told reporters, "but on the other hand, you have got to realize you've got the gift of life, so make the most of it.” His willingness to speak openly about his disease was inspirational to many facing their own cancer battles. Tony’s Mile for a Miracle will be a gift to all those touched by colorectal cancer.
