San Francisco Get Your Rear in Gear

900 runners and walkers answered the call to Get Your Rear in Gear, Sunday, October 4, 2009. In our sixth year, the third with the Colon Cancer Coalition, our numbers have grown from 200 in the first year to close to 900. Not bad for San Francisco, where people have a wide variety of activities to choose from. We raised nearly $80,000, which will go a long way to fund colonoscopies for the uninsured and underinsured in the San Francisco Bay Area. The weather cooperated and we enjoyed a post race pancake breakfast in the sunshine.

Top Individual Fundraiser, Tracy Werle, a colon cancer survivor, raised $2,685. Our Top Team Fundraiser as of Race Day, Team Innes, raised $2,560. Our teams were especially creative this year including The Semicolons, Eve’s Smartasses, The Polyp Police, and Operation Clean Sweep

In the 4 mile run competition, First Place Male and Female honors went to married couple Jeff Pineda and Jody Leal Pineda, each taking home a $100 Gift Certificate donated by Sports Basement. Coming in Second Place for the men was James Bucci and Kim Fanady for the women. Rounding off the top three, Dominic Vogl placed Third for the men and Mary Welter for the women.

Many thanks to all who participated and contributed to Strides for Life Colon Cancer Foundation Presents Get Your Rear in Gear 4 Mile 2009. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
